COMMISSIONS

My Pet Portraits are created on a commission basis for clients all over the world. I specialise in highly detailed, realistic style drawings of your animals, from household pets to farm animals and wildlife. I use top quality coloured pencils and paper to create each bespoke portrait, specifically Fabercastell Polychromos, Caran D'ache Luminance Pencils and hot pressed Fabriano Artistico paper, which enable me to achieve a high level of detail in each hand drawn pet portrait. Below is the step-by-step process for commissioning your own pet portrait:

SIZES & PRICES

Firstly you’ll need to decide on the size portrait you’d like. Consider whether you’d want a classic rectangular portrait, or a square portrait. I can recommend which shape would work best based on the reference photos you have if you are unsure. Be mindful of where your portrait will be displayed in your home, whether that be on a side table, or pride of place on the wall, the scale of the portrait is very important.

I will always confirm the details of your commissioned pet portrait before I start it. If you change your mind on the size of the portrait after booking in, that’s absolutely fine, but please give me as much notice as possible so I can work around it.

REFERENCE PHOTOS

Secondly, you will need a really good quality headshot photograph of your pet. It is particularly important to capture the character of your pet through their position or facial expression. Natural lighting, by a window or preferably outdoors with no direct sunlight, would be the best way to achieve the perfect photograph of your pet. I need to be able to see your pet's eyes clearly.  The better the photograph, the better the drawing!

I use one main photo to draw from, but if you send me a selection, so I can get a sense of the pet’s character, that would be perfect.

If you are unsure of whether your images are suitable, please feel free to email me a selection of the ones you have, so I can offer any advice in capturing a better photograph and check if they are suitable to draw from. Holding a treat by your phone/camera can be a good way of grabbing their attention if they won't keep still!

I understand that some of your pets are sadly no longer with us, but don't worry, I will do my best to work with the photographs you have.

I need original images, no screenshots or cropped photos.

Please refer to these images as a guide when taking your own photographs.

BOOK IN YOUR PORTRAIT

Once you have an idea on the size portrait you’d like to go for, and you have gathered a selection of suitable reference photos, the next step is to get in contact with me. I usually have AT LEAST a 7-8 month waiting list, so please bear this in mind, if you need the portrait completed by a certain date.

To secure your place on my waiting list, I require a non-refundable

£25 deposit, via bank transfer or PayPal. The remaining payment can be made once the drawing is complete. The £25 deposit will go towards your portrait.

If you’d like to pay in monthly instalments, this is something that can be arranged.

I will always contact you nearer the time before starting your portrait, to confirm the size and photo I’ll be working from. I’ll then let you know once I’ve started.

PROCESS

Progress photos - You can choose to see progress photos throughout or wait and see the finished portrait once it’s complete. The time it takes me to complete the drawing, will depend on the size of the portrait. I can give an estimated time frame when discussing your commission.

Progress videos - As I share so much of my work online, I often record my drawing process and create short videos, so you can see your pet coming to life on the paper!
