FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE TO DRAW YOUR COMMISSIONS?

I use a mixture of high quality professional drawing pencils and papers. I predominantly work with Fabercastell polychromo’s, Caran D’ache Lumiance pencils and Derwent colouring pencils, to achieve a high level of intricacy within each portrait. The pencils are both oil and wax based, so all drawings will last a life time.

I work on extra white hot pressed Fabriano Artistico paper 300gsm, which is a very smooth surfaced paper, specifically made for detailed coloured pencil drawings. Over the years I have tried many different papers and coloured pencils, but I find these materials work best for me.

CAN DRAW FROM AN OLD PHOTO / BAD REFERENCE?

I always ask for photos to be as detailed as possible, ideally close up head shots in natural lighting. However, in some circumstances I understand this isn’t always possible if the pet has sadly passed away and you don’t have many photos available. If this is the case, please email me at beccabarron1998@gmail.com with any photos you have, and we will try and work something out.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE A PORTRAIT?

The time it takes to complete a portrait depends on the size of the work and quality of the reference photo. Anything from 1 day - 2 weeks, depending on the size. When enquiring about commissioning a portrait, I will give you an estimated timescale for completion.

HOW MANY PHOTOS DO YOU REQUIRE TO WORK FROM?

I predominantly use one photo as a reference when drawing your portrait; however 2-3 photos are always useful, so I can get a feel for your pet’s character. Please ensure all photos are sent in the highest possible resolution.

WHEN DO I NEED TO PAY FOR MY PORTRAIT?

A £25 non-refundable deposit is required to secure a place for a commissioned portrait. The remaining payment can be made in full after the drawing is complete via PayPal or bank transfer. If you’d prefer to pay in instalments, please let me know and that can be arranged.

HOW WILL MY PORTRAIT BE PACKAGED?

Portraits will be sent carefully rolled up in a postage tube with a stamped, signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity.

Gift packaging is also available for sizes up to and including 12x16". Any sizes larger than 12x16" will not be suitable for this packaging option and will therefore require a tube. Gift packaging includes a black flat postage box, which will enclose the finished custom portrait, stamped, dated and signed Certificate of Authenticity, protected with tissue paper, bubble wrap and finished off with a ribbon, ready to be gifted.

CAN I SEE PROGRESS PICTURES OF MY PORTRAIT?

Yes! I will always notify you before I am about to start your portrait. If you would like progress pictures please let me know after I have notified you, otherwise I will send pictures of the completed drawing once it’s finished. I often record my drawing process for socials so look out for a video of your drawing coming to life!

CAN YOU DRAW MULTIPLE PETS TOGETHER ON ONE PIECE?

Yes! Please refer to my ‘Sizes & Prices’ table on the ‘Commissions’ section of my website. For two or more dogs I recommend any size 10x10” or larger, to ensure I can achieve enough detail in each pet. If you’d like more than 3 pets together on one piece, please email me at beccabarron1998@gmail.com for an accurate quote.
